Schools may have been closed but there has been a lot of progress this week!
ALL attendance sites and educational support facilities have been deep-cleaned and thoroughly disinfected. We owe a sincere word of thanks to our custodians and maintenance crew. These individuals have tackled a major undertaking in a short amount of time. Thank you!
Our business office, food service, and transportation teams worked together to provide FREE meals to students almost immediately after schools closed. In just four days, we were able to serve 1,043 grab-n-go breakfasts and just as many lunches. Thanks to everyone who made this possible and parents, thank you for bringing your kids. Our staff enjoys seeing them! You can find the meal schedule here on facebook or at bit.ly/ackidseat.
The leadership team has been working diligently on a framework for our continuous learning plan. Next week, teachers will join them (remotely and in small groups) to continue planning and implementing. Today, a survey was sent to parents via email and it is also posted on our website (www.usd470.com). Please take a moment to complete that as it will help us in our planning efforts.

Ark City USD 470 considers the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff our top priorities. We know this flu season has been complicated by COVID-19, commonly known as the novel coronavirus and we want to take a moment to communicate our processes and reinforce preventative safety measures for any illness.
As a school district, we are closely monitoring the situation. District leaders, school administrators, and school nurses are working together while following the guidance and expertise from agencies such as the: City-Cowley County Health Department, Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
We have many protocols in place due to the cold and flu season, which we will continue to implement and can increase if needed. Though the novel coronavirus is not believed to survive well outside the body, our custodial team continues routine environmental cleaning such as disinfecting frequently touched surfaces at our schools. We are prepared to escalate such practices if recommended by the local health department.
We all play a role in reducing illness. Please help keep communities safe by staying informed and practicing healthy habits such as:
We take the honor and responsibility of educating your students very seriously. It takes all of us working together to ensure healthy communities. Thank you for your support. Please see the helpful resources and any updates below.
