The following is an outline for safely learning during the 2021-2022 school year. 

HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS 

  • Masks are optional for all students, faculty, and staff (UPDATE: Masks are currently required for all staff, students, and visitors while indoors. This will be revisited at the September 27 Board meeting).
  • All public health measures will be followed (travel restrictions, quarantine expectations, vaccination protocol, etc...)
  • Vaccinations are strongly encouraged but not required
  • Continued emphasis on regular hand washing/sanitizing
  • Social distancing will be encouraged - to the greatest extent possible 
  • Air handling enhancements will continue
  • Enhanced cleaning measures will continue
  • Nurses will continue to monitor for illness, and follow existing COVID protocols should there be concern about student/staff illness
  • Students, faculty, and staff will be strongly encouraged to stay home if sick
  • COVID testing will continue to be available by appointment
  • Employees will utilize sick leave time should they have to quarantine
  • A revised COVID protocol will be developed to guide USD 470 in handling those who have or are suspected to have COVID-19

 

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

  • Students will be able to return to full-time, in-person learning
  • Virtual learning is available through the Greenbush Virtual Academy - Ark City (www.usd470.com/virtual)
  • Remote learning (as we offered in 2020-2021) will not be available
  • Students will continue to have a computer device and teachers will continue to incorporate innovative technology use into classroom instruction
  • IEP teams will meet to assess if any additional supports are necessary to provide a student with an appropriate education
  • There will continue to be a strong focus on social-emotional learning and support for students and staff

 

ACTIVITIES

  • These activities will resume during the 2021-2022 school year while following all health and safety protocols in place for staff, students, and visitors. Activities may be modified if community health conditions require.
    • School activities such as pep rallies, athletics, performances will be allowed
    • Activity venues will allow spectators at full capacity 
    • Visitors will be allowed in buildings
    • Field trips and fundraising activities will resume
    • Indoor/outdoor facility rentals will resume
    • Foreign exchange students will be allowed to enroll
    • Employee and student travel may resume with any necessary modifications or restrictions

 

FOOD SERVICE

  • All students will eat for FREE (except for items on the a la carte menu)
  • Household Economic Survey will be used in lieu of federal free/reduced lunch form
  • Meals will be distributed to students at school and there will be no remote meal distribution sites
  • Menus will be similar to the pre-pandemic lunch and breakfast program
  • Breakfast will remain a priority and second chance breakfast will be available at the middle school and high school
  • Students who desire the a la carte addition to their meal will be responsible for the cost of that item(s)

 

OTHER

  • The USD 470 Board of Education will continue to hold open meetings in person but modifications may be made if community health conditions require 
  • BOE meetings will continue to be live-streamed at www.usd470.com/boemeeting
  • Transportation will continue to be provided for qualified bus-riding students
  • The USD 470 Board of Education may change or adjust the elements of this plan as necessary to comply with local/state guidance
