A Quick Update (3/20/20)

USD 470 Families,

We know Governor Kelly’s announcement temporarily closing schools had a significant impact on everyone. We know parents, students and families have questions about what that closure means. Rest assured, learning will soon be underway once again - it will just look different from past months. The district continues to take guidance from KSDE as well as state and local health departments.  Members of the leadership team are making plans for each student to successfully complete this school year.

Our dedicated custodial and maintenance teams have been deep-cleaning and disinfecting all school buildings. Next week, employees will be called back to assist in designing a continuous learning plan. This may be a different approach - but we’re confident our team can and will give students a quality educational experience. Multiple forms of distance learning will be made available - we will succeed in helping kids and families.

We have received several questions about events such as prom, athletic competitions, and graduation. At the current time, athletics are canceled. Please know that we hear and understand your concerns. We will be answering additional questions, including graduation, in the coming days. We thank you for your patience.   Please know we welcome your questions and your thoughts.

Please consider staying home and minimizing social contact as much as possible. These efforts can help “flatten the curve” of infections throughout the region.

We will update you regularly. Continue to check the USD 470s website (, social media accounts, and your email for the latest information.
