USD 470 announces new Director of Curriculum & Instruction

The USD 470 Board of Education recently selected a new curriculum and instruction director for the 2021-2022 school year. Braden Smith will transition to the role when our current Director of Curriculum and Instruction Jeri Crumbliss retires this summer. Smith is currently the principal at Arkansas City Middle School.

“It has been an honor to serve students in a number of roles during my career in USD 470 and I am excited to continue supporting our students and staff in this new role,” Smith said. “The people of USD 470 truly do their best to put kids first and I am proud to be part of this team.”

Smith began his education career with USD 470 as a 4th Grade Teacher at C-4 in 2007. He later taught physical education, leadership, and health science at Ark City High School while serving as the head football coach. Smith also helped coach high school baseball and middle school basketball before serving as Jefferson Elementary Principal and, most recently, ACMS Principal.

“Braden has been a vital part of our district for many years and has proven to be a natural and effective leader,” USD 470 Superintendent Dr. Ron Ballard said. “His attitude, work ethic, and forward-thinking approach have made him an excellent building administrator and I look forward to having him on board as we continue to improve our academic program for all students.”
