The ACMS KAY Club broke records with its Richard Potterton Food Drive, collecting 19,725 items to fight food insecurity. Other efforts include raising funds for a family after a fire, supporting winter clothing drives, and upcoming shopping for essentials.

The ACHS KAY Club is hosting a Toy Drive with ACPD, collecting donations at the December 10 basketball game. KAY Clubs, sponsored by KSHSAA, emphasize leadership and service, inspiring generosity across the community.

Arkansas City Public Schools offered students a hands-on lesson in democracy with this year’s Kids Vote event, where students cast ballots to predict national and state election results. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and the Optimists of Arkansas City, this event was a success, bringing civic engagement to life. True to tradition, our students accurately forecasted most of the election outcomes.

Arkansas City Public Schools earned two awards through the Kansans Can Star Recognition Program: a Copper Award for Social-Emotional Growth and a Bronze Award for Kindergarten Readiness. These honors reflect the district's dedication to helping students grow emotionally and start school ready to learn. Kansas State Department of Education recognized districts across the state at their annual conference, held October 23-25 in Wichita.

USD 470 is proud to recognize our September “Top DAWGS,” a group of dedicated staff members who go above and beyond to support our students, colleagues, and community. Nominated by their peers, Marie Austin, Elizabeth Bedolla, Kasie Bogart, and Rebekah Whitley each make a unique impact on the USD 470 family. To celebrate, they received a surprise visit with balloons, a tumbler, and a Steamy Joe coffee gift card. We are grateful for their passion and commitment, which help make our schools a place where students thrive.

USD 470 has received two generous grants from the V.J. Wilkins Foundation: a $25,000 matching grant for new percussion instruments in elementary schools and a $20,000 grant to support the ACHS Choir’s Spring Break trip. These funds will enhance music programs and provide valuable opportunities for students.
